I would like to make scented sachets but I would like to fill them with something that would smell good and would last a long time , something inexpensive. Any ideas?

I can't think of anything that will last a long time. Everything fades with time. your best bet is simple things like cedar chips, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, the more natural the better chance of scent staying

I can't think of anthing that lasts a really long time.Even Avon 'Roses Roses" soaps only last about a year in storage. But the lady who mentioned lavender was right. It smells wonderful and can be replaced in the spring for a reasonable cost.

It's not the best solution, but I've used cut up perfume sample pads. Also, I've bought 99 cent oils and soaked cotton balls to create an inexpensive, but fragrant solution.
