This is most likely due to incompatibility of your IDE hardware. Like a harddrive or CD/DVD-Rom. Something does not have a right driver installed, or something is not set up right (slave/master). Did you make any hardware changes right before the error started coming up? try reversing the process, see if that helps.

you do not say if it truly is xp professional or xp abode. if it truly is xp abode, you need to be able as well into secure mode as Administrator (with password sparkling) and then visit regulate Panel / consumer expenditures and eliminate the password for the account you generally use. if no longer, or if that's xp professional, receive the purely right Boot CD onto yet another workstation and burn it to CD. use this CD as well your workstation. it has a device on it which permits you to reset and/or eliminate any xp password by right now having access to the registry key it truly is kept in (makes use of Linux).

That's a problem with your cd drive. Best to call the manufacturer or look on their website to see if they have any firmware updates you can try to download. Might have to replace your drive, also. Best bet is to call whoever made it and maybe it might be under warranty still if it is a bad drive.

When you put the drives in, did you change their positions on the ide (grey ribbon cable)? Did you change the jumper settings?
