Did Germany, Britain and USA had calvary units too and similar usage too?

By the time of WWII, most of the calvary units of most nations had converted from horses to armoured vehicles. Calvary was used in most cases to scout ahead of the main force to determine the positions of the enemy.
A case opposite to the above points was the futile charges of the Polish horse calvary units against the German armour during the invasion of Poland, September 1939, which resulted in slaughter of both men and animals.
