In the times university league tables, northumbria is ranked 58 while middlesex is ranked 96 - quite a difference. However it will vary for what course you are studying - the Times also rank for subject so you should have a look at that. I have friends at both, and they both enjoy it. London is more expensive than Newcastle, and both have good nightlife and facilities. Middlesex is quite far out in the suburbs while northumbria is in the centre of Newcastle but then the Middlesex campus is meant to be beautiful. In the end, you will have a great time wherever you go. You need to look at the specifics for each course and weigh up the pros and cons of each location.

Middlesex university I'm afraid is not well reputable anymore. It is my local university as I am from North London, however at my current university in Hertfordshire you find that most of the students in the 3rd or final year went to middlesex and either had to come back and re do their third year or leave completely.
They are lagging behind these days, teaching facilities, resources etc are just not upto standard anymore.
My advice to you is to compare more than one university, look at employment rates of their graduates, companies they have links with, or companies in which their graduates work now. Middlesex is just not making the grade anymore.

Uni is whatever you make it

Cheaper to live up North, money goes further.
Nicer people up North.
More fun up North.

Tell us what subject. I'm a sociologist / criminologist, and there is something to be said for both.
