My rye lawn in Phoenix did not come in as well as i would like.Now it has cooled off and I need to know how to best plant some more seed.

Just make sure there is a good seedbed ( Bare dirt for the seed to root into). You can usually rake these areas to get to the dirt. Get rid of any dead matter that you may rake up. Sprinkle the seed as evenly as you can and water a couple times a day. Water lightly. All you need to do is get the seeds soaked. There is no root yet to water , so anymore water will just puddle and make your seed collect in small areas.

If it's just patches, then a rake or garden weazle to scarify, then hand broadcast. Walk the seeds down to create good seed/soil contact. then water.

If large areas need work, then a core aerator could be rented, make two opposing passes over the lawn, then overseed with a broadcast spreader.

There is a seed starter that helps new grass seed start quicker. You plant grass as normal. then put the seed starter on. You can see grass starting by 2 weeks
