I wonder why people can't just live together in harmony without equating colour to everything. About six people in the last week have posted horrible questions about a particular colour.

Please share your views and give solutions on how we can purge that terrible orientation.

Who_Knows is obviously a racist and i will just ignore his comment.

Its really rampant both in reality and in the media but shouldn't there be a capital punishment law to offenders so that we could reduce the high level of it.

In my mind it all comes down to ignorance and insecurity on behalf of the people with racist tendencies. Unfortunately, it logically follows that the racists them self always thinks they are the most intelligent, least insecure, etc. Which makes it a really difficult problem to solve. The only thing I can think of is to always confront racists wherever and whenever we encounter them.

Before you generalise such statements you should define "racism" Is it just colour as you tend to make out? Or is there a superiority feeling due to culture? Is there any link with religion? And the literacy level?

Chinese and the Japanese and the Koreans have all colours different from the (say) people of european origin. Yet they are not called in any derogatory way.

In my country racism has a different name ...caste. it amounts to the same thing. We have found that this cannot be changed by law. Individuals have to change. It will take a long time.

we live in a very closed society.. where exposure to different cultures is negligible..

the problem is huge... starting from educational, cultural, religious, and social conditioning... (much to do with media as well)

the solution to this problem is huge too... breaking the borders, a world without any national boundaries...

i knw..seems too far fetched an idea... but possible.. someday..

capital punishment will only cause anger and resentment and give a "reason" to validate such behaviour... and the last thing you wanna give the racists is a reason... retribution is not the solution... but yes, love and compassion can surely make lots of difference... art and media (a responsible media) can do a lot of difference

Most racism is produced by the media and politicians.
Our government has hurt minority's in this country by giving them welfare. That also produces a lot of racism.

I live in the south, racism isn't as big problem here as it is in the northeast or far west.

The only way to get rid of racism is to teach and practice tolerance. The problem comes in, in that everyone has their own prejudices. No matter what everyone is prejudice about something. It's much harder to deal with racism when you are prejudice about something.

People teach racism as well and it's that much harder to teach tolerance to someone who has grown up with racism and a different way of think their entire lives.

Ignorance mostly, and fear.

The only real way to alleviate racism is education. The more people know about each other, the more tolerant they become and also less fearful (we're all afraid of what we don't know)

Racism has become an excuse for low performers to demand more than they earn.
It also acts as a convient excuse for people acting badly.

Racism is handed down from gereration to generation. I think when all is said and done there will be 1 race on earth and that is when it will all end. No fighting and peace on earth!

It saddens me greatly. I have no good answer as to why it is so prevalent, yet a theory is that it is something passed down through generation to generation. You have to be taught to hate.
