just think for a second...... more and more ppl are getting cancer, being born with diseses, adhd, add etc. if there was a complete ban of fags( none in shops etc) dont you think that would be brilliant, i know it may cause a bit of upset in the short time run- but in the long time run- ppl will start thanking us and the further genarations will be much more healthier. I know they make lots of money by selling them but we're rich enough as it is. Think about Africa- very poor. i dont see any harm with banning all fags. Do ya reakon i should start a campaign about this?...who would care to join me eh? xx

I agree.
My grandparents both died of lung cancer from smoking a pack a day. It was the worst experience of my life, watching my grandmother die and there be nothing you can do about it.
And now my boyfriend smokes, not around me because he knows it'd upset me and he'd be on my sh*t list for a while, but still he smokes more then enough while at work and when I'm at work and it drives me insane because he doesn't understand why it bothers me.
I would definatley be on the band wagon for banning cigarretes.

In a previous answer to a question of the same subject, I said that the government will not ban it, as the tax on such products is enormous, that plus the fact that the nicotine levels in them are designed to make the consumer addicted over time, equals easy money for the government.
However, for the health benefit, in an ideal worl, it should be banned, when you think about such products were classed as a luxury many, many years ago, and were only bought by people/families who could afford it, you know the ones who could also afford the grapes, with them too having once been a foriegn product to the country.
But what we have to realise is that this country is what it is, dont expect any more, cos you aint gonna get. People have the freedom of choice, so its a case of each to their own.
(No I don't smoke, though I used to)

I believe people have the right to smoke, because they know the effects of them, but yes I wish they would ban them. I am trying to quit right now, and it's pure hell. I'm doing ok, but if I couldn't get them, then it would be a lot easier. I am trying to prevent getting cancer, even though I have already increased my risk alot. I don't want to have to face getting cancer. It's a shame that most people start smoking when they are young, because when you grow up, you realize what a terrible mistake you made, and bye then it's a little too late. I don't wish cancer on anyone. I have come to really value my life and see just how precious it is. I have 2 people in my family that have just been diagnosed with Lung Cancer and it's scaring the pants off me. I could see the controversy and chaos a ban would bring, but it's well worth it. Crap we'd increase our life span bye at least 20 years... But I really think that cigarettes is a form of population control, at least in America. I don't see how hard it is to really find a cure. I mean come on we used to die from Pneumonia, and now it's as treatable as a headache. Not to mention, all the money hospitals get from cancer patients. So I have beliefs, that it raises too much money to ever really be cured. And that it's a form of population control. It's unfair. But I am pretty sure it's easily cured. We just wont be offered a cure unless we have a ton of money to "donate" to that particular hospital.

No people have the right to do whats legal. Fast food is terrible also, do you want to ban that right too. Its a free country as long as the smoke is not in your face dont worry about it. Making things illegal is not the answer. People will always smoke just like people do drugs. Until we educate the youth about dangers the correct way then things will stay the same. This will take many generations.

Banning smoking outright will NEVER happen because the tobacco companies are big business and control a lot of money. Mutual and pension fund companies invest and own large portions of big tobacco companies. The government makes a bundle on the taxing of tobacco. You can't win against big business, banks and government. Sad but true. Smoking in public places such as malls, restaurants, airports etc. is now illegal (in Canada anyway) and I'm happy with that. All that being said - who am I to tell other people what they can and can not do in their own home. As long as they are not blowing it directly in my face I say to each his own. Can't we all just get along?

I know this is a smoking question related to health issues BUT there are PLENTY of other things out there that cause illness, cancer etc. It cant all be blamed on ciggarettes. I am a smoker, However i dont mind if they wana bring in a total ban. No one can stop us smokers from smoking in our own homes. BUT.... It will help me and im sure others that WANT to quit but find it hard to achieve this.
As for the problems that come with smoking, my dads first wife died of cancer many years ago and she was riddled with cancer, YET she had never smoked and would never go in a building or be around anyone that smoked. Yet still still caught cancer and died of it!!!
Did you know that we all carry the cancer gene in our bodies?????? If you dont believe me then go check it out or ask your doctor. THIS IS A TRUE FACT. However for some of us it lays dorment and never wakes up. For some, smoking can bring it on. For some a sudden shock or accident can also trigger it. My mates mums sister was in a serious car accident a few years ago and it somehow triggered her cancer gene to awaken and she died of it.
I disagree with people who lable SMOKING to be the biggest cause of cancer. I agree it plays its part but its NOT ALONE.

I am not a smoker, but I can't agree with you. This sounds like temperance.
While we are at it, let's ban:
Alcohol
Porn
Fatty Foods
George W Bush (oops, how did that slip in?)
Tobacco, while not healthy, is still legal. Banning it will make it more popular, that's just human nature. We have to get the education out there that this is not cool but is a pretty unattractive habit. The younger the kids are addicted, the harder it is to get them off of it.
However, I leave consenting adults to their own destruction.

I agree with you completely, though I can tell we're from differrent countries...lol. You call them fags, I call them ciggarettes. (I'm not making fun of you in any way, believe me.) Anyway, what I can tell you, is that here in America, the anti-smoking movement is in full-swing. From town to town, slowly, but surely, many places of buisness are banning smoking inside and within so many feet of the entryways. Some places it's 10 feet. (about 3 meters : ) ) and some it's 50 feet. I hope wherever you are, things start picking up momentum too. Where I live, they are debating a city-wide ban on smoking in businesses and restraunts. Good luck!!

Hmmm i'll just bet the tobacco companies are quaking in their boots, i can see it boardrooms all over the world right now - lordy some kid on a message board wants to ban us, is it cold in here? throw another bag of £20 notes on the fire.
Get real kid, you can bleat all you want and it wont change a thing, these companies have billions of pounds at their disposal, they'd laugh in your face.
And if you can find any link between smoking and attention defecit disorder i'd be interested to hear about it.
Shouldn't you be spending your time wetting your self over some boy-band?

After a hour breathing in tree bark human waste and bug derbies you'll quit or fall dead. I love when cops site these people for smoking in public. Will power find it you can save a life.
