I was told this by a co-worker and find it hard to believe, just wanted second opinions.

No, it's an urban legend.

You can check out more about it here...http://www.snopes.com/business/bank/pinalert.asp

Must be an urban legend. I mean, what if your PIN happens to be the same forwards and backwards? Is it always the right one or the Notify Police one???

city legend... and not real. What you're able to do is form interior the PIN incorrect thrice interior the row.... Now what happens is the ATM retains your card and your economic employer account is frozen. i'm unsure no remember if the robber will take your notice for it... yet you could no longer get money out of the ATM till you flow interior the economic employer and tell them that definite, it replaced into you that placed the PIN in incorrect. i'm confident the robbers do no longer wont to flow interior the economic employer with you. Your card is long gone too.... now they have no longer something they could use on the gasoline station etc. with any luck.... this would not lead them to so mad that they shoot you.

I have heard this as well unfortaunately i dont know if it is true. The best way of finding out, ask your bank, but I would think that this is information your bank would give you when they issue the card...
