I like to start selling on ebay. This way I can test the market for my items that I would like to sell. Any suggestions on where I can apply for my dba without going to the clerk's office in Georgia on the internet.

If you have a DBA for a sole proprietorship, your tax ID is your social security number. As to "applying for DBA" (the correct term, by the way, is "filing a fictitious business name statement") online, most counties do not allow it, since the fictitious business name statement is required to have filer's signature on it; plus, you need to enclose a clipping of your statement published in a local newspaper. You may be able to do it by mail though; many newsparer publishers offer a packaged service, whereby they first publish your fictitious busines name statement in their paper and then file it with the county on your behalf.

Well your going to have to go to one place or another. In order to DBA you have to signatures. You can print forms off the Internet and send them in or you can go to your local office, there is usually a fee that is required for filing. You can use your Social Security Number instead of a tax id number when your doing DBA. But if you plan on hiring anybody you will need a federal tax id.

If you are staying a small business and consider yourself a sole proprietor, you just use your social security number for your business. If you plan on expanding and growing, and getting the benefits of being a corporation [ and you have several types to choose from ], you need help from an accountant who specializes in setting up a business, or at least the Small Business Administration, as well as downloading all of the documents, rules and regulations you can find in regard to your state as well as the federal government. {Tax documents, reporting requirements, dealing with OSHA,,,,} Much success, but you may need more help than you can get on here in a few short sentences.
