Yesterday I was driving with a friend on a rural road when we both heard a loud pop and discovered the rear windshield was blown out. At first it sounded as though we blew a tire but the car was completely under control and when I looked behind me I saw there was a hole in the windshield about the size of a small acorn.

We were the only car on the road so I know we weren't rear ended. The road was completely paved so chances are it was not a rock.
Lastly, the car was a minivan and shards of glass imploded all the way to the front seats atleast 10 feet from the windowframe.

What could have caused this?

Is it possible someone took a pot shot at me with a gun?

Something hit the glass and caused it to break. It could have been a piece of wind blown debris, it could have been a rock thrown from the side of the road. It could have been that someone shot it!

Unless you can find the item that hit your glass, you may never know. It may be a good idea to file a police report, it case there are other instances of damage in that area!

I have seen a couple of rear windows shatter and fall out before, but they did not have a hole in them as you say. It sounds to me like someone may have shot at you as you say. You may want to check the back of the seats and see if you can find where a bullet might have went.

Why mess with the rear wiper element contained in the first position? no longer many shoppers use the rear wipers and drilling a hollow contained in the metallic is calling for rust. examine the swap connector for ability with a attempt basic, or purely warm cord the motor to attempt it.
