Usually when you hear a ticking sound when you turn on your computer it means the hard drive is about ready to die. My suggestion to you is to save all your important files such as pictures, music, documents, and anything that is important to you to a CD or someother type of removable media. If you don't have a CD burner use a USB flash drive they are pretty inexpensive right now. Don't wait until its to late. The only other things that can make a noise like that are the fans. Fan on the power supply, fan on the CPU. or an exhaust fan. Most likely though its the hard drive so save your items soon before its to late.
