It isn't easy to solve serious social issues. Throwing money at the problems will not be the solution either - if somebody wants to not change or is incapable of doing so (mentally handicapped or the untreated mentally ill, etc.) no amount of money will fix the problem. It would take an army of social workers working for 100 years to fix this problem. The budget isn't there and the political will is not there. Its easy to say we can fix all the world's problems - its an entirely different matter to actually do it.

Everything in America and anywhere else in the world for that matter is that way because America wants it that way. The poor in America are poor because they are required to maintain our current set up. The problems in other countries are fostered because when people are not blowing up all the time they will organize and innovate thus becoming potential competitors.

What social issues are you referring to, personally I don't see how abortion, gay marriage, and a lot of other "hot button" issues have anything to do with government anyway. They should be left to the individual but we just have too many people that want to tell us how to live.
