Yesterday during second period, a freshman and I told our teacher 2 different times, which were fairly close together. I said it was 9:40AM, and he said it was 9:44AM. Second period class ends at 9:45AM. So the class waited a minute to see if the bell would ring, but it didn't. So my math teacher slammed the desk behind the freshman which resulted in hitting his desk and chair. And then he went to the desk in front of him and did it again. Then the next one and then the next. And then he went back to him and said "Maybe that'll teach you not to lie to again."
I've already been down and kind of talked to the administrative guy, which had me and my friend write a statement. And then they had the freshman boy come down. And from there, I don't know what happened. What other actions can be done? I've been trying to get this math teacher fired for a couple months now. Due to, everybody in the class in failing. He doesn't teach, he just gives us the work.

My college professors do not really teach sometimes. They give us just work. So basically, that really isn't a reason to try to fire this teacher.
When I was in high school, one of my teachers (math actually..haha) had kicked a trash can at a student and hit the student. The kid got hurt, but the teacher didn't get fired.
He may have done wrong. But probably not anything that could get him fired. I am not too sure what else could be done. Avoid the teacher.

First of all, is this the normal actions of this teacher or something that has begun recently? Teachers are human and have families at home with illnesses, and problems of all kinds. Sometimes they continue to be in the classroom with the stress and just flip our over nothing. If this is the case, the parents should go to the next school board meeting and discuss the problem with them. They can investigate the happenings and talk with the teacher and get to the bottom of everything. If they find he is indeed suffering from stress and worry, they can recommend a leave of absence to handle the situation or get better control of themselves. It is unlikely that any teacher can last as a teacher if "EVERYONE IN THE CLASS" is failing.
The school will take all concerns into consideration when informed of the problem. This will include the teacher's past experience, his success in keeping acceptable grades with his students, his actions on the campus and at meetings where teachers express themselves with other teachers and his relationship with other teachers.
One thing in the question is disconcerting. The writer stated they had been trying to get him fired. How sad this would be if it happened to be that his wife or child were dying from a horrible cancer or such and he was so overwhelmed he couldn't concentrate, yet was afraid to not keep working due to the added expenses of treatments to his family. He would have perhaps been wrong with teaching at that time but still a great teacher who deserves a chance to prove himself, just not in the classroom at that time. Maybe several parents talking to the schoolboard would be a help to everyone and provide a solution to the problem. Meanwhile, we hear of things happening with teachers who do wrong things. They get punished. We seldom hear of students who worked at understanding and analyzing before condemning a teacher without having all the facts. You have a chance to be a helping friend and hero or an irate student who wants to get rid of a teacher not liked.

If he didn't actually strike or hurt the student in any way, he may not have done anything illegal, i.e., something that he could be arrested for, but his behavior certainly sounds inappropriate and probably against school policy. That sort of display of temper, slamming desks around, is not the sort of thing that you generally want to see from a teacher. He apparently has little or no self control. And why get so upset about something so minor? Why not laugh this off? Why not make a joke about the freshman still learning to tell time? If he is unable to deal with high school kids without getting this upset, he has no business teaching high school.

What grade are you in? I know some teachers can get frustrated with students that are trying to act smart. Try doing something nice for your teacher, maybe everyone in the class is failing because they are too busy terrorizing the teacher. Giving homework is a part of teaching....when you get into college you will learn more about this. You sit there and listen to the teach lecture on a subject, all the while you have to right every word. No homework is given unless its a paper.
Standardized tests are given to see how much the teachers in the school are teaching, if they are doing their job. So let the tests be the judge of your teacher's work. Not you.

The teacher did not hit the student , he hit the desk. I would look at your and your classes behavior. You do not like the teacher, you do not agree with his teaching methods. What are you doing to make the situation better, not worse? If the teacher is horrible, your next action is to get your parents to back you up. Parents have a tremendous amount of clout. Just make sure the administration is not able to say that the class is misbehaving and disrespectful making teaching impossible.

If you want to see if it is illegal then go and try to file a POLICE report about it. Take the other kid with you. Schools don't police themselves very well.
Or you can try this in the court of public opinion--take it to the news media, offer to wear a hidden camera and a microphone and see if they are interested in an undercover investigation.
You do realize that you probably won't be passing this class....

nothing illegal but the teacher sounds like a jerk....teachers make good students and further develop those who are great stundets, if there is no teaching component to the class it is a reflection on his methods if everyone is doing poorly....you should transfer to a different class with a new teacher.

Just because you do something rude doesn't make it illegal. I don't think slamming a desk constitutes an illegal act.
The best way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics. If you aren't learning, it may be because you are not doing the work he gives you. He may not be a great teacher -- but it is up to you to learn to be a great student anyway.

its hard to say from just your version of what happen i guess if you have all ready gone to the office with this you will just have to wait to see what happens also you can inform your parents in what is going on in the class room I'm sure the school will notify them any way so they might as well hear it from you so they are not surprised if the school calls
