Honestly, I don't worry too much about it. The only thing that might worry me is going to strange urban areas at night, especially if the area is known for crime or drugs. The answer is that I just don't go there. Where I stay, there aren't that many no go areas, and there is very little reason or even no reason to visit them.

There is no REAL security in this world.
Heck, even the Pope has private security and he's supposed to be extremely close with God.
Upper echelon politicos have all kinds of private security.
Even entertainers have private security and all kinds of security measures to protect them and their property.
Most of us, not being able to afford or in some cases not wanting any part of those security measures rely solely on FAITH.
Some are just simply in denial and just don't believe that anything could happen to them.
That too is a sort of twisted faith.
The bottom line is no matter what measures you take or don't take;
YOU MUST HAVE FAITH and HOPEFULLY everything will be all right.
On a personal note; I pray and ask God to watch over me and protect me and guide me and shelter me and comfort me and keep me with His Love and Grace and Mercy and Kindness and Forgiveness and His Angels and EVERY WAY that He does what He does.
On a worldly level, when indoors, I keep my doors and windows locked. When outside I pay attention to my surroundings; (watch as well as pray). I try to avoid negative confrontation as best I can; I avoid being out after dark. I avoid 'unseemly' people and areas. Yes, as do we all we all make judgments based on what we see and hear, et al.
I live in an apartment complex that is inhabited by all kind of foul and unclean individuals; so like I said, I watch as well as pray and I have faith that as long as my plan is in agreement with God’s Plan, He will protect me.
So far I feel blessed.

I would not change a thing. I believe in being a very confident individual, and if you worry about everything that comes down the pike then when do you have the time to enjoy your life?
I lock my doors and do common sense things to maintain myself, home, car and family. I don't do anything foolish to jeopardize my family or myself. Just use a safe approach to life and in whatever you do until it becomes second nature.

Personal security is a chimera, an illusion. Most of us probably won't admit it, but nothing can provide foolproof personal security. No matter what you do, how much you spend, whatever precautions you take, if you have "An Appointment in Samarra", it's going to happen:

""The Appointment in Samarra"
(as retold by W. Somerset Maugham [1933])
The speaker is Death

There was a merchant in Bagdad who sent his servant to market to buy provisions and in a little while the servant came back, white and trembling, and said, Master, just now when I was in the marketplace I was jostled by a woman in the crowd and when I turned I saw it was Death that jostled me. She looked at me and made a threatening gesture, now, lend me your horse, and I will ride away from this city and avoid my fate. I will go to Samarra and there Death will not find me. The merchant lent him his horse, and the servant mounted it, and he dug his spurs in its flanks and as fast as the horse could gallop he went. Then the merchant went down to the marketplace and he saw me standing in the crowd and he came to me and said, Why did you make a threating getsture to my servant when you saw him this morning? That was not a threatening gesture, I said, it was only a start of surprise. I was astonished to see him in Bagdad, for I had an appointment with him tonight in Samarra."

Use common sense and take reasonable precautions, but until you fully understand - and feel - that security is simply not attainable this side of the grave, you'll likely never be able to achieve any peace of mind.

Personal safety means different to different people. We all like to seek security for things we value in life. And different people regard different things that they would like to save from harm at any cost. Personal security in all respects is attached to what people value most in their life. People, for example, would not let any harm come to their health. Where it is impulsive to jump away from an oncoming traffic, it very precautionary and of paramount importance to take all necessary measures to maintain a good physical health. Most people would do anything for people who they love and care. In this regard, people have been seen sacrificing everything else. Personal safety can also be viewed in terms of a career, wealth, a passion, a life style or place of belonging.

In philosophical sense, however, the main threat to a person as an individual self is that of an insignificant life and an absolute end. We all want to be known and recognised one way or the other. However limited that may be, we like to make sure that people like us and know us. We want to feel that we are special. For this is all that is there as a difference between us being us and us being just about anyone. Then we realise that we are changing; the time is changing for us. When we think we feel helpless and at the mercy of unavoidable tyranny of time. We feel as if we are vaining away. We then respond to this realisation by doing things that are eternal and are timeless in nature. We believe in life after death and follow religious disciplines. We raise families and realise our love and longing for an eternal life through posterity. We like to live forever. The notion of ultimate demise is the primal fear. We do all we can to save ourselves from dying ever.

I don't get obsess with personal security.

I lock my home and my car.
I do understand that if someone wants to break in...they will break a window...and there is nothing much I can do about that...except spending money on security alarms.

As for my personal security...if anyone wants to attack me...they better understand than they will have to kill me or be killed by me. I don't negotiate with criminals. And I don't take prisoners either.
