If it is still infected DO NOT take it out. This means the skin heals over and traps the infection inside. Wash it with rock salt dissolved in (boiled and then left to cool) water three times a day (not too much salt though). Don't use anything other than salt water - alcohol dries out the piercing and many other things shouldn't be used on broken skin.

Some people will tell you that you must take it out but this is WRONG it is a sure way to trap the infection in your body. If the infection doesn't heal up soon then go to a reputable piercer not a doctor. A doctor will more than likely not know about piercings and may advise the wrong course of action.

If the jewellery you have in isn't surgical stainless steel or something like titanium then after wasking for a few days go to a piercer and get it changed.

My daughter had the same problem. She did what they told her to do when she got it done but it still got infected. I told her to use Neosporin. Put it around the piercing, make sure it gets on your ring, then carefully and slowly move the ring back and forth a tiny bit so the Neosporin gets into the acutal piercing. Do the Neosporin in the morning and in the evening. Leave it alone the rest of the time, let it heal. A few days after she started doing this it started healing. Now it's just fine.

TAKE IT OUT. Infections can be serious trouble if they spread, and you need to get it taken care of immediately by a doctor.

This infection may be due to the metal the piercing is made from, inadequate sterilization of the piercing equipment, or poor wound care on your part. Your doctor will have a better chance of figuring out which it is than you do, and you can decide what to do from there.

If it's infected, definitely take it out. Be sure to clean the area twice daily with an antiseptic such as peroxide or rubbing alcohol for the next couple of days. If and when you get it redone, make sure they don't put it in the same area as there will be scar tissue there and scar tissue is weaker than original skin.

Ouch, well if its infected to no repair, then YES take it out and maybe hold off on getting it repierced... One thing to note is that some belly buttons are high maintence, mine is... my belly got infected but it turned out I was allergic to the jewerly, so now i hve to wear at least 14kt gold belly rings and I haven't gotten an infection since, that's almost 4 years now... so maybe you need to get a more expensive belly ring and use sea salt... I would totalyl take it out unless you know it will not get better.

It will "appear" to be infected for several weeks after u get it done(don't know how long you've had it) but if you have had it for awhile and then it became infected you could try cleansing several times a day w/peroxide and then applying THIN layer of triple ant. oint.

I had one in high school and it got infected too. I used peroxide on it and alcohol. It eventually healed, but it was really nasty. Mine was actually ripped out and I have a scar.

I had a lot of problems with mine from day one. I just think maybe some of us arent meant to have them. :(
You may want to see a Dr and get a prescription and have it checked. My girlfriend knew a girl that had a lot of problems and finally went to get it checked to learn that she had been pierced too deep and they had perforated a section of intestine. I know that is really gross and probably rarely happens but you should get it checked.

Oh Yeah! Definitely get it redone and while you are at it, get your genitalia pierced, nipples, nose, tongue and eye brows.
