During timed tests, she refuses to move on to the next question if she is unsure of the answer, and is not finishing. If there is any doubt in her mind as to the answer, she will keep reading the material over and over until she is sure. She will not guess. She scored in the 98 percentile on the Nagliari Non Verbal test and was just tested for the gifted program in our school district. She is a straight A student, very intelligent, and hard working. She is not lazy and her teacher says she does not daydream or waste time. Her teacher has never seen anything like this and does not know what to recommend to help her. She has been a perfectionist since she was born. When she was younger, she would have "melt downs" if she did not do something to her own satisfaction. (Rip up pictures she was coloring if she went out the lines, things like that.) I have always told her that it is OK if things are not perfect; that no one expects perfection, but she is very strong minded.

.She is her own person, let her be just that. Don't make her feel like there is something wrong with being a perfectionist. It is a gift and you should be grateful you have a child like this. I have one who is also very self motivated. I am amazed at what they can accomplish. Encourage her with compliments for her determination. It always felt as if my child had what they call and "old soul" because of such mature behavior. He is an amazing adult now too, with a daughter so much like him.

Wow, what an interesting situation. Advice on taking tests advises that you go through the test and answer all the questions you are sure of, then go back and work on the ones you are unsure of.

I don't know how you can get your 3rd-grader to understand that this is the best way to work through a test. Even though your child does not need tutoring, maybe a study center such as Kaplan would have an answer for you.

Well, you should be proud that she is doing so well in school being that she is in 3rd grade! I sure hope that you have told her that! I think you telling her that it is ok to not be perfect and that no one expects that. As for timed tests in school, I can only say maybe telling her to move on to the next question if she is not sure about one and then go back and fix the one(s) that she is not sure of. Try talking to her teacher to see if she maybe she can give you some ideas to help out your daughter. When you come up with ways to maybe help her, talk to her teacher to have her follow thru with them while she is at school.

Sounds like she is doing fine in school. My son was the same way. Teacher told me not to worry about him. He graduated from high school and college with honors. She knows what she is doing.Teacher doesn't seem to be complaining about her so leave her alone.
