I have been giving it water on a daily basis and it has just stopped soaking any more up.

If you didn't cut any of the bottom off when you bought it, you'll need to do it now. When a plant is cut, it is self-healing, so it will scar over and cut itself off from the water you're giving it.

Sorry, but you're going to have to take the tree down and do this again. When you put it back up, put some aspirin in the base as well. I don't remember why that works, but it will help your tree survive longer.

Probably becasue it's starting to die. The best time to buy/cut a fresh tree is closer to christmas as possible. This keeps it form dying and losing the needles all over the floor. And also keeps the tree looking nicer on christmas day.

you need to cut the base of the tree off about 2" and it will start absorbing again. The open "pores" get water logged and stop absorbing. Same thing for flowers, they tell you to re-trim them before putting in water
