It is not so much what day you are born,( me, 09/15/60 ). It has more to do with the animals that are prevalent in your life and you have all ways been attracted to. They are working with you all the time. Spend time communicating with them and you will see them appear in "real" life as animals on tv, in magazines, news papers etc. you may dream them. meditate to seek them out. dancing or any physical activity assists in contact and enhancing your interaction.
aka Hawk Child.
p.s. after posting I see the other posts and the forementioned can hold some relevance but like dream dictionaries the don't mean squat really. You are you and your totems are for you because they are who you need and not what some book says. They will change faces too as you need a differnt animal as situations change. You have one main one with 2-3 very significant ones and many helpers.

There are many schools of thought on Totems.

Being a Totemistic Shaman myself for the past 26 years, here are my 2 centimos worth.

Sit back and think of what the one primary, over riding, never fail, thing that you feel is important to you. That is likely the Totem in question, but only with one proviso...... this is not something you invent with an eye towards "Oh, Man I LOVE that animal it is so BOSS......"

Totems choose you, and not the other way around.
Totem followers differ GREATLY from Wiccans who freely choose the Deity that they wish. Totems choose you because they see in you something that they stand for. It is something primal about you and it is something you are already doing, already feeling, and already following.

Totems do not react well to 'posers' who only choose Jaguar because they own the car or have a kewl looking patterned jacket.

Totem is an anglicized version of the be conscious 'odoodem'.....it ability prolonged family contributors. It has not something to do with the nonsense new-age theory of animal spirit classes. they have no place in interior of reach spirituality. it fairly is an insult, while people use totem for this type of depiction.

You can ask to meet your totems in a dream. I had one one night where a man let something out of a dark closet. I saw the
eyes coming, but wasn't afraid, so I guess I passed some test.
They came into the light and it was a raccoon and a rabbit.
Raccoons are curious of course, and rabbits symbolize the use of spiritual power I'm told!

A good way to find out your totem is through an "underworld journey" or "sitting out". These techniques are from Michael Harner's "Universal Shamanism" teaching methods.

Take notice of what animals are around you/or your home the most..What animals do you dream of the most. You may want to take a look at the book Animal-Speak by Ted Andrews it's pretty good.

There are many that are "right" for you, but your archetype will be the ONE your are most aware of. The one you know in your bones. The one you see in your meditations and dreams frequently. The one you pursue in curiosity, and in which you learn from.
Check out some native books, just be sure the are written by who they say they are.
I am sure you will get answers that more reflect your question, just remember to listen not only to your core during your search, but remember to rely upon your instincts, and give extra effort (in this busy society) to staying open...You'll know...

It is usually an animal that you are drawn to above and beyond the rest. You must ask your totem to reveal itself to you. When you are ready, it will reveal itself.
