One opinion is that the Anaconda does not have powerful jaws & the other of coarse, is that it does.
Anacondas are powerful animals there is no question. However, it uses its strength (Its body) to coil & constrict its prey and then swallows it whole. Specifically, the power of the snakes jaws are in question.

My guess is that it really is no more than your typical adult German Shepard.

An anaconda uses its jaws to hold its prey while it coils its body around the prey the same as any constricting snake. I own a burmese python and it is almost impossible to open its jaws if it takes hold. The idea is that the muscles are so arranged so that they pull the mouth closed automatically and the snake has to deliberatley open its mouth if it so wants to. Also the teeth are arranged in the jaw facing back into the mouth so that they act like grappling hooks on the flesh of the prey. Power of the bite is immaterial if the snake has its prey in its coils not allowing it to breath.
A dogs jaw is powerfull but it would let go well before an anaconda would. Also a dogs teeth are designed to cut and rip flesh not hold it.

Anacondas have a nasty bite because they have curved teeth. I doubt that they have the PSI of a German Shepherd. And if an anaconda has bitten you I doubt that you're contemplating the bite because of what he is doing with the rest of his body.

Anacondas and other boids that have gotten large should not be handled by a single person unless someone is nearby to help in an emergency--even though they may be dog tame you don't know what will set off a constricting episode--it can be fear, hunger, or you just move in a way that reminds them of prey or they scent prey in the vicinity. If one bites and it won't release spontaneously, pour a cup or so of hot tap water or even coffee on it's head--whatever is handy. They will release, I've tried this and it really works. The rapid vasodilation it induces stuns the snake.

It amused me how you refer to the German Shepherd's bite with such casual disregard... if an anaconda matches a GSD in power, may I never be bitten by an anaconda.

They have kooked teeth that help it hold on. I would say it would be easy to pry it open.

i have been told that they have stun venom which can stun a baby elephant. so as well as constricting its pray it will stun its victim by biting it then it will constrict it.
