Sorry to disillusion you, but if you think that studying psychology is going to unlock lifes secrets for you, or provide you with 'instant wisdom', or turn you into some sort of super-hero, who can go around sorting out everyone else's problems......well, sorry, but you had better think again. And again. And then again.
The fact is, most graduates in psychology don't end up as psychotherapists or as doctors specialising in psychiatry. (Dream on!)
Psychotherapeutic aspects are more usually dealt with at masters degree level - and the more mundane elements of basic psychology are about as emotionally stimulating as accountancy!!!.
And there are some 200-odd varieties of pyschotherapy - few of them with any 'scientific' evidence to back them up - but thats human behaviour for you... All they are, are frameworks for understanding and conceptualisation. They're not the Holy Grail and whatever you may imagine at this particular moment, patients are not going to swoon at your feet just because you get a degree in 'cognitive analytical therapy' (or whatever else...).
If you want to think about caring for other people, then thats fine. But you should test your motives first, by doing voluntary work (perhaps your local hospital?) - and also consider the wider range of 'helping professions'.
When it comes down to the nitty-gritty, having a working set of skills to truly help other people requires much, much, more than 'brain power' or an academic degree.

a psych degree gets you bunk unless you also have a degree in pharmacology (hence psychiatrist over psychologist). So hit the general stuff hard and decide after you've had all the general studies. I did and chose pre-med, which is about as hard as it gets, but it's all i was interested in. Now i have 3 classes left.
