why should we have clones

Science believes the human race is unable to rectify the mess it has created over the relatively short time humans have inhabited this planet, and cloning offers a way to wipe the slate clean and effectively start again. Apparently, there are benefits to cloning too. Medical and physiological applications could benefit from cloning, we're told. In the wrong hands, cloning could spell global disaster on a scale we can only imagine and hope that may never happen. Most of us are blessed with everything we need to get through our lives. Cloning provides those who choose to abuse their bodies with an excuse to carry on regardless. May be it has advantages, but the apparently potential disadvantages are, in my opinion, not conducive to the advancement of human-kind.

Wow! Cloning eh? Hmm........ Have you seen the movie Multiplicity and how Michael Keaton's clones drive him insane? Not that I'm saying cloning is insanity, but I totally agree with cloning. Anyhow, back to answering the question! If I had a clone it would make my life a lot more easier. How? Because my clone will be like me. I can send my clone out to do a lot of things which I may not have time for, e.g, go to see my girlfriend when I'll be too busy dating another woman. Um....... send my clone to attend my lectures when I'm not in the mood........ Or........ One of us can go and attend my lectures and one of us can find a job for extra income! We can take everything in turns!!! See..... How useful can cloning be and fun! I find the idea........ FANTASTIC!!

I don't feel that there is any reason that we NEED to have clones. I feel that the human race just likes the idea because we like to do the impossible. We are always striving to make big discoveries or create amazing scientific experiments. People have talked about the sci-fi theory of cloning simply for harvesting organs that people may need, but do we really find that ethical????? And would it ever really happen? i can't see scientists creating life and then just destroying it because they need to take it's heart out for the original person it was cloned from or something like that.

We don't need clones and cloning persons is a terrible idea.

Cloned animals have the geneitc age of their donor cell, this means that young clones have old diseases, such as cancer, due to the age of the genes.
A child cloned as a 'saviour child' for a sick sibling would not be seen as a person in thier own right but as a provider or donator of cells or organs.
There would also be a huge pressure on 'famous clone' to live up to the expectations of its donor. Imagine the pressure on a clone of Mozart for example.

It is easy to forget that a child is not a right or a commodity but a gift.

I don't know that the people who advocate cloning are suggesting we keep copies of ourselves on a secret base and when we need them say 'congrats you get to go to THE ISLAND' (see the movie if you dont know what I'm talking about).

You have to keep in mind that cloning is just one aspect of genetic engineering. If you don't want it to proceed I imagine you're of the mind that if you find out that your child has a genetic makeup that will cause him leukemia before he is 30 you'd be happy with that and not consider gene therapy.

The danger is that the technology will be misused but I fear whatever the dangers are science will march on regardless. I dont think science should be blamed for advancing. Perhaps the problem is that our morality has not kept up. Inventing a nuclear weapon doesnt mean you have to obliterate part of your own planet and irradiate it, does it?

**I've considered the possiblity of using a clone like Tony would - keep in mind though bud that we'd need more money for food - plus he might want his own holidays each year!

As a biologist, I can see the advantages of having "spare parts" for organz etc, , but human cloning is a very very scary prospective....
We don't want to end with the "Super-homo" concept again, do we???

I use Norton Ghost, it is really useful for building a large number of computers. Although earlier versions don't work with external USB HDD's
