Ok, the director makes sure that everyone is in place and does the right thing and is on time and reviewes the lines with the workers, the produer is like his boss, he makes sure that this film is worth seeing and markets it and make sure that the director knows what he is doing. In other words, the line is a producer and then he hires the director.

While there is sometimes a little crossover between roles, the producer does the behind-the-scenes stuff to make the creation of a film possible: raise money, hire staff, obtain rights to use locations and scripts, etc. He/she is kind of like the "chief of staff" for the movie. The producer sometimes has creative input as well, but that is not a primary role for the producer.
The director is the one who crafts the movie itself in a creative and artistic sense. They plot the scenes, plan the shots, help the actors develop their characters, etc. He/she has an overall vision for the movie & does what is necessary to make that vision appear on film.

A director is responsible for overseeing every creative aspect of a film, from start to finish. From the "look" of the film to trademark lighting or mood, you can recognize the best directors' films by their artistic signatures. Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg and Woody Allen, for example, each leave their distinctive mark on every film they make.
A film producer creates the conditions for making movies. The producer initiates, coordinates, supervises and controls matters such as raising funding, hiring key personnel, and arranging for distributors. The producer is involved throughout all phases of the filmmaking process from development to completion of a project.
In the early 20th century, the producer also tended to wield ultimate creative control on a film project. With the demise of Hollywood's studio system in the 1950s, creative control began to shift into the hands of the director.

I think of it as right brain, left brain although many of us are both.
Directors are the creative control. Producers are the business end.
The director is responsible for the overall execution of the film. He/she controls the shots, the actors, for the most part the script, - creates the picture. Artistic. Hopefully genius.
The producer can and will often do many of the other things, mostly related to the business end of the movie. Find money, hire people, coordinate things, secure permissions, insurance, monitor schedules and costs and so on.

well I dont know the technical words for all this, since I am not in the film world, but... I believe that the director's job is to "direct" the actors and tell them what they are supposed to do. The producer is putting the film together... possibly directing the cameras, etc. I'm not 100% sure.

what she said. The director tells the actors what to do and the producer pulls everything together. The executive producer is the money guy.

The director shoots the movie, and says how he wants it to look. The producer only helps pay the cost of making the movie, he doesn't have any say in the movie itself really.
