French fries were actually a product of the belgians.

The French originally came here for the same reasons as the Spanish, the Dutch, and the British - colonialism.

Fur trapping was especially popular in the upper north of north america. And remember, the Louisiana purchase was purchased from the French (which gave us one of the biggest pieces of real estate at the time).

The first journeys of the French to North America were actually for fishing off of New Foundland. They travelled all along what would become northern New England (and yes, just as in Mexico and Peru, the native population was laid waste inadvertantly by diseases). As their influence began to spread, they also became involved in the fur trade, which was extremely lucrative at the time (that was why Russia seized Alaska). When the French finally sent people to stay, they settled in the Saint Lawrence river area and as far south as Lake Champlain. Unlike the Spanish, the French normally did not seek conquest, and their impact on the native lifestyle was usually very gentle. In fact, rather than trying to impose Christianity on the Indians, many French actually went native, and if they came back to the church it was because of their Indian spouses! However, unlike the English colonies which were used as a dumping ground for unwanted population, the French only allowed a selective few to colonize Canada. As a result, when the Seven Years' War (we call it the French and Indian War) began, the English colonies outnumbered the French colony terribly.

The French language got here to North us of a of america by using the French administration of Canada. The French then explored westward from Quebec, really LaSalle, in the discovery of the Mississippi River and France then claimed the area on each aspect of the River. on the right of the French and Indian conflict(or 7 years conflict) the French in Canada who didn't want to grow to be British matters were allowed to go back and forth to what became considered French Louisiana. The land east of the Mississippi grew to grow to be British Territory. On arrival in Louisiana, they realized that the Treaty of Fontainebleau (1762), had given the territory to Spain. later on, Spain gave the Territory to Napoleon in the Treaty of San Ildefonso who then bought it to the u . s . a .. The Acadians were French settlers in the Maritime provinces of Canada who after the provinces were given to the British moved to French Louisiana grew to grow to be the "cajuns". whale
