no, it isn't normal behavior to see traumatic things while trying to sleep. seems like you have a very deep rooted problem to solve. whatever fears you are facing have taken such a hold of you that they torment you to that extent. you need to find out what it is you fear, and face it head on. there is no other way to overcome fear. I myself am struggling with a fear of change. i'm afraid to break out of my routine for fear that something could go wrong, but I'm taking steps and facing my fear in steps.

take time to look inward and find the source of the fear, then try to figure out how you can overcome it. when you really think about it logically, there isn't much in this world to be afraid of even those things we all know are dangerous, like wild animals, speeding cars, and the inevitable death, they are things that can be avoided, but not entirely prevented. so a fear of them doesn't make much sense. I wish you luck with your hardships. you have a tough road ahead

There is something bothering you in your life and when you go to sleep it consumes your sleep as well.
No scary movies, coffee, cheese or spicy food at least a couple of hours before you retire.
Watch a cartoon and relax before bed and when you shut your eyes "think happy thoughts"

no its not really normal, there must be something that has triggered this off, sometime it can be the oppersite of what your dreams are saying, so oppersite to your dream does blonde, nice teeth, nice skin, someone who tries to look after themself well, maybe a bit to concious of it, and this is where it may be coming from, unless you have really seen the witch in your dreams.

You see only what you let your mind see. If you think about positive things before you lay down, then you'll "see" positive things. Picture yourself living in your dream house, driving your dream car, doing something you enjoy doing, etc..
