I had to go to another place for an ultrasound as well. Its totally normal for a doctors office not to have a ultrasound machine on site. I would make my appointment as close to 20 weeks as possible so that the results can be more accurate. A great number of mistakes are made as far as the sex of the baby when you have the scan done too early. My friend prepared for a baby boy..blue everything...even painted the nursery walls..well... Ms. Kyah will be 3 months Friday!! lol so be careful! What they check for is fetal growth, heartbeat, abnormalities. The sex of the baby is most times a whoopsy! I don't think that technically they are supposed to look for the sex. At least insurance doesn't pay for such a reason. If you ask, I'm sure that they will tell you..but BE SURE to ask.

Yes...some doctors will send you elsewhere for an ultrasound...sometimes even to the hospital...no big deal. When I had my daughter, I had to go to the hospital for my ultrasound. With my son, I had to go to another office, and now with this pregnancy my doctor has an ultrasound tech right there in her office.
The best time to tell the sex is at about 18-20 weeks. You say you are 16 weeks...it will probably show now...but if you want to be sure wait a couple of weeks. Also, it may be very disappointing but there is a chance that your baby could have his/her legs crossed and you might not be able to see...just prepare yourself and try to not get your hopes up. That happened to me with my daughter. We had two ultrasounds where we should have been able to see...but she was stubborn!
At a 16 week ultrasound, they are just checking to make sure that baby is developing normally...probably nothing to worry about. They will measure all of it's organs and parts and check the spine and brain etc. It's really cool to see and is a good way to know that your baby is doing fine.

It's not uncommon to go somewhere else for an ultrasound. I have to go to the hospital for all of mine. Rountine ultrasounds are usually done between 18-22 weeks. The doctor probably just thought you were far enough along in your case. They check the organs, reproductive system, the 4 chambers of the heart, spine, fingers, toes and things like heart rate, the umbilical cord and stuff. This is also when you can usually see what the sex of the baby is. Don't get your hopes too high though! At 22 weeks, my daughter was facing with her back out and her legs crossed! She wouldn't in any way show us! We didn't find out until 2 days before we had her (we had one ultrasound before inducing labor to check on the baby and position). Good Luck though!!

The best week to go is right around 20. They will be checking everything!! I just had mine a few weeks ago and they took measurements of everything, determined the size the baby was currently, if he was growing right on track....the check heartbeat, kidney, bladder, they showed me everything. It was really neat. They also check to make sure there are no abnormalities with the baby, and also they can tell the sex if the baby cooperates. Have fun with the appointment!! It is so neat to see the babies heartbeat and see he/she move around! Good luck!

I was sent after one of my ultrasounds to get another one also. I was sent to get what they call a level 2 ultrasound. Everything turned out fine.
They must have seen something they were unsure of. Or some where in your family history there might make the baby high risk, in my case my brother had cleft lip. (everything was fine). Don't be worried, i know a lot of women who had the same thing happen to the , doctors scared them to death, but everyone has turned out fine. Ultrasounds are really awesome, I loved when I got mine.
My daughter hid in all of the ultrasounds, her legs were crossed in one, and the umbilical cord was between her legs the other time, it wasn't until I was 7 months and went for the level 2 sonogram did I ever get to find out. Good Luck!!

They will just do the ultrasound. That is all, and yes they should be able to tell the sex by now, but it would be easier for them to see at around 18 to 20 weeks. They will check the babies weight, measurments, amount of amniotic fluid, heart, etc...

that must be where the ultra sound machine is, if you wanna know your baby sex, the best week would be 19 to 20 weeks or later weeks.

i'm constructive this is conceivable. although, maximum Dr's will ensure a cleft lip in a three-D or 4D ultrasound. They make seeing the infant's lip a lot a lot less stressful/clearer. were you informed your infant is going to have a cleft lip? if so, you ought to ask about the three-D experiment. it's going to furnish you with a clearer photo of what's taking place. And who's conscious, they'd were incorrect. If no longer, even with the truth that... only keep in innovations a cleft lip may be really fixed. best of success.

my doc doesnt do u/s in her office either so i have to go to another one as well.i would wait till youre at least 20 weeks because then its easier for them to see the baby.all they do is measure the baby, look at the organs and try to look for any deformaties.it takes a while but its really neat to see your little one moving around!i had one at 18 weeks and they couldnt see the sex due to the baby having her legs crossed.luckily i got another one at 22 weeks and there was no denying that it was a girl!
