They can see, but only about a foot away from their face. Thats why you want to hold them close to your face!:)

That thing about it being irrelevant because babies don't remember until the age of three is incorrect. I myself have memories, not many, but memories of my Grandpa...he died when I was 1.5 years old. So that one varies person by person. And even my 6 year old son will bring things up from when he was about 2ish, that just stuns me.

A newborn can focus on an object 6-8 inches away. It's not co-incidental that when you hold a baby in your arms your face is 6-8 inches from its face. They may not remember what they see, but I'm sure that *everything* that goes on in those early days matters to the future development of the child.

They can see from before they are born. They can see light and dark from the time the eyebuds form, long before even the eyelids form. Extremely premature babies can also see.

And after about 1 week they will begin to show preferance for certain faces.

They can see but it's very fuzzy at that age. As for memories, I can remember many events that happened between a year and half and three so I'm not sure where the first answerer got their info on that.

They can't see very far away and they can't really distinguish what they are seeing at first. They don't have the "focusing" muscles in their eyes exercised yet. They can see colors well. They have the visual accuity of 20/120 at first.

Babies cannot see clearly at the age of 3 days ... if you look at your babies eyes you will notice they look glazed over and cloudy, obviously they are not blind, they just cant see clearly.

Yes, but it is irrelevant since a baby would start forming congenial memories only at the age of 3 and beyond
