my company does not have short term disability, I can't afford to quit my job, no one else will give me a job having to carry around oxygen all of the time, and I can't file for disability because I am working, kind of a catch 22....Please anyone?

I am not partially disabled, I have PPH and am forced to work to support my family with edema in my legs, constant side effects from the meds, and my breathing is better than what it was 6 mths ago but with the slightest exertion becomes worse. Maybe i should have been more clearer but you only had so much space to work with --I should not be working, I have been since I was 11yrs old and am not looking for the nation to support me, I am medically classified as Terminally ill, the other sure cure is a double lung transplant and a heart transplant... Care to dispute that I don't qualify? Think not...

If your doctor will certify that you should not be working and cannot work you can get state assistance until you can get approved for disability. I had to and I had a son that had to as well As longas the doctor stands behind you you will be able to get the assistance. It can take up 2 years if you are talking about SSI. You have to be very insistent when they turn you down you file an appeal in he right time frame and keep going they usually turn people down atr least 2 times , when they are over 18 but as long as you keep the appeals up you can win..

Have you ever thought of filing for PARTIAL disability. You are still managing to work now. That means that you SHOULD be working. But the situation is made hard by your partial disability.

Yet, you say that your employer doesn't have short term disability, which means that your disability is expected to only last a little while. You can't really expect the taxpayers to PAY you to take time off that you really don't need?

If this isn't the case. If you are expected to be disabled permanently, then maybe you should have been clearer in your question.

As it stands, my original suggestion still qualifies...Have you thought of applying for partial disability?

I really wish I knew the answer. I do understand what you are going through. My father in law is dying of mac disease .its a rare lung disease without a cure. He cant afford to quit his job because he has to keep his insurance. without the med. he will die but the med is $15k each month. So if he quits he will die without med. and the DR. said the more he moves around trying to work the worse he gets and will die.NOT EVERYONE IS TRYING TO GET A HAND OUT sometimes people really need some help.

If you still able to work, why thinking of filing for disability? Why not think of how to lead a normal life.
