The term "pwn" is a shortened version of "pwned," which is what a lot of people use instead of "owned" (meaning pretty much to either defeat or show someone up). There are a couple theories where the word comes from - most people think iit was originally just a typo that became popular (since O and P are next to each other on the keyboard); others say it's a combination of "power" and "owned".

Wikipedia has a good entry on it:

The other answers are good. One other theory on how it came about is that the word "owned" was used, but p is one letter higher than o, thus the value is greater, so it somehow equates to owned a little more than the typical "owned". I prefer regarding it as "power owned" though like the above answerer said.

It means owns, can't remember how it came about but the O and P are right next to each other so... Anyway, if you're playing a shooting game and you headshot someone, you can say you "owned" them, or "pwned" them.

PURE PWNAGE!!!!

It actually came from the old Starcraft days, when someone online accidently wrote "pwned" instead of owned, and they continued to use pwned - everyone started compying this one guy and thats how it came about.
