yes, without a doubt. i have two teenagers at school, (and if it was the same for all kids) if they came home and said they'd had the cane, I'd tell them "well you must have deserved it)

i think that the discipline at school is where all the problems in society start from.. Children just don't need to answer for their behaviour any more, and there are just no consequences of their actions.. they do what they like.

most teenagers (not mine) have no respect for authority, police, adults any more, and the only reason is.... BECAUSE ITS NOT ENFORCED ON THEM GROWING UP now is this the parents problem?.... yes.... i think so.. but all the same, it should be OK to carry this on at school, after all, children spend most of their waking time at school....................

Caning is only as effective a punishment as it is appropriate to the crime committed. If the crime is bullying then it may be appropriate. If, on the other hand, it is being rude to a teacher then being made to stand in the corner under the threat of the cane may be more appropriate.

This applies upon all levels... which is why I do not believe in imprisonment as an effective all-round penalty.

Yes 100% ! ! ! Might knock some of the attitude out of some of todays kids. There is no respect anymore and i think a deterant like the cane would go a long way to solving some youths problems with society.

I went to private school where the certain individuals were caned on a regular basis. I think this is an important observation because corporal punishment was obviously ineffective in changing their behaviour.

I wouldn't want my kids to be caned at school. However, I went to school with a few that needed something like that.

No, I don't. I was fortunate enough to have went to school when it was abolished but I think it was unfair and abused by teachers. I have family members who have told me stories about it when they were at school. Teachers basically caned kids for anything even kids who were innocent. I think it would be abused again. The government says parents should not hit their kids so how could they allow teachers to?

I believe that caning would be a great addition to our punishment options but not in school. No teacher or school official should be allowed to hurt a child unless it is to protect someone from doing bodily harm to themselves or someone else.
