By the end of the third month you will most likely have gone through all of your clothing that was a little too big and there will come a time when they too will be uncomfortable.

Even if your clothing still fits in other areas such as in the legs and through your hips your waistbands will be too tight and your blouses may pull.

Some women feel that the remedy to this phenomenon is to purchase bigger clothing. Unfortunately, that will not work because these new clothes will be too big all over your body.

Maternity clothes, on the other hand are bigger in the places you need them to be bigger. The waist is a bit larger and the tops are fuller throughout the bust area as well as your waistline. Many maternity clothes have panels or elastic in the pants and skirts that will allow them to expand so that you will be more comfortable.

When purchasing maternity clothes you should not choose a garment that fits perfectly, as you would when buy other clothing. This is because you will not fit into that outfit for long. Look for pants, skirts, and shorts that have elasticized panels for a longer wear. Look for tops that flow instead of constrict. If you begin to notice angry red marks around your waist you will definitely know your waistbands are too tight. A good idea is to purchase pants, skirts, and shorts with wide rather than narrow waistbands.

When deciding upon a fabric for your clothing it is best to choose cotton tops. This is because cotton breathes and will not leave you hot and sweaty, as you will have a tendency to feel warmer than normal while you are pregnant. If you are worried about wrinkles purchase clothing with a cotton blend. For pants, skirts, and shorts you will most likely notice that these are made from blends of cotton with a small amount of spandex.

All in all, the best type of maternity wear is what you feel comfortable wearing. Since there is a wide variety of choices on the market today you are bound to find items that fit your style and budget.

Good luck!

I'm having the same problem and it started at about 10 weeks, I started by wearing maternity pants and skirts but nor shirts, now I'm at 15 weeks and I'm wearing the shirts, we have an excuse might as well use it. Now I look pregnant fat and I don't feel as bad, some women just show earlier then others, I have a sister and a cousin that are farther along with and average of 2-4 weeks more then me, and neither is showing. However they are both petite and skinny and on their first child, on the other hand I'm on my second and have always been chubby, my doctor told me not to worry or compare myself that my baby is healthy and that's all that matters.

oh im with u! Ive been like that since about 10 weeks, Im now 17 weeks on Thursday and still in that middle ground. Ive solved it by buying a few clothes 1 - sizes bigger than normal and it seems to have solved the problem. I began to show around 2 weeks ago and now I do look pregnant. Have a little bump sticking out

I absolutly HATE that part of pregnancy!! If your regular clothes are too small but maternity is too big go to a maternity shop and look for a Bella Band.
You can wear your regular pants unbuttoned and just put that band on and it holds them in place and smoothes out the bumps. Or you can put it on over maternity clothes and it will keep them up. I got mine from Motherhood Maternity for like $15 and it was a livesaver (and works wonders post partum too).
Sorry to sound like a commerical but I loved my Bella Band LOL

I know how you feel!!!! I am 37 weeks right now and I am just really now showing that I am pg and not fat. If this is your 3rd then you should start showing here in the next few weeks. If I were you and you do not want people thinking you are getting fat just go out to wal-mart or target and get the maternity shirts and pants that are for early pg. I did that and it helps out. Good luck!!!

Every pregnancy is different; you'll probably start to show in another four weeks, and then perhaps you'll be able to fit into maternity clothes. I know you're frustrated, but don't let those hormones drive you crazy! Try to relax, and enjoy being pregnant. Best of luck!

I bought those comfortable stretchy "athletic" pants, and I wore my jeans but didnt button them. That is a hard part of pregnancy, and right after I had my daughter(c-section) my regular clothes were too small and maternity clothes were too big so I was in the same spot again.Good luck and congratulations

Oh dear I'm at the same spot in my pregnancy as you are I did this I took a rubber band and wrapped it around the button of my jeans pulled it through the button hole the wrapped it around the button again (sounds weird I know) it helped me stay in my jeans a little bit longer. It also gives you the extra room for when you sit down, Good Luck and Congrats
P.S.
Make sure you wear a long enough shirt to cover the waist band so no one sees the open pants :o)

I wore the maternity clothes any ways because it was so much more comfortable. There are maternity styles that gather more in the front and help keep you from just looking fat.
