I had my first OB appointment yesterday. I had a pelvic exam done and the doctor scheduled me an ultrasound for next week because he said my uterus is larger than it should be for only being 7 weeks. What could this mean? My husbands father is a twin, so it would be our generation to have them.

It could mean any number of things. I had the same experience. It could mean twins, or it could mean that they miscalculated your due date, or your kid could just be a porker. Turns out, my baby is just big for his gestational age and that's why my uterus was so much bigger. Don't anticipate anything, that's just a good way to be disappointed if you're wrong.

You could have twins - it's not a generational issue (that's a wives tale).

You could be further along than you thought - and this would be easily determined by an ultrasound.

There could also be medical concerns such as:
Excessive amniotic fluid (hydramnios or polyhydramnios)

Try not to worry. Just follow your doctors advice. Not all pregnancies are identical...your doctors just taking precautions to make sure that yours is will be a healthy one.

You should address all concerns with your doctor. If you are worried, call him and ask him to clarify.

Just a word of advice: Asking people about medical conditions on YA is possibly the worst thing a worried mother can do. People on here cannot examine you and most don't have a med degree. You're likely to hear about scary diseases you probably don't have - So don't worry yourself, just ask your doctor.

I read online that twins is only carried on through the womans side of the family so your husband having twins on his side wouldnt affect your chances any (theres twins on my husbands side which is why I looked it up) Theres only about a 3% for anyone to have twins. I would bet you are just further along than you thought especially if you arent sure of the last date of your period.

Congratulations, either you are having twins or you are farther along then you thought. I have the same problem but at 15 weeks, I get a sonogram next week too.

You could either be having twins or perhaps you are farther along than you think. Ultrasound is the best way to figure that out :) GOODLUCK!
