When ammonia & carbon di oxide are passed through a suspension of finely powdered gypsum in water, ammonium sulphate & calcium carbonate r produced. Calcium carbonate being insoluble in water can be separated by filtration. The soln left contains ammonium sulphate. It's first evaporated & then cooled, when colorless crystals of ammonium sulphate seperates.This is used as a fertilizer.
CaSO4+2NH3+CO2+H2O=CaCO3+ (NH4)2SO4

Ammonium fertilizers are generally prepared by the addition of ammonia (a base) to an acid, to get an ammonium salt. A very good example is the combination of ammonia and nitric acid, which gives ammonium sulphate...a good fertilizer.

Ammonia + Sulphuric Acid = Ammonium Sulphate

Ammonia + Phosphoric Acid = Ammonium Phosphate

The above 2 are also good fertilisers.

Hope that helps...

Maybe, Haber process to produce ammonia gas in the first place.
N2 + 3H2 --> NH3

Then use the ammonia gas to react with acid like hydrochloric acid or sulphuric acid to produce ammonium salt which are used as fertilizer.

I think you should find something safer to use in school.
Ammonium nitrates are explosive and if your school security
finds that you are messing with them, they might haul you off
for questioning.

Seriously. Do something else.
