Yes. Keanu was living at the house 2 years before Sandra. They communicated through a magic mail box. The reason Keanu never shows up is because he is the person who gets hit by the car at the beginning of the movie and dies in Sandra's arms. She eventually figures this out and warns Keanu. She changes the past by warning him. It took Keanu 2 years to finally get to the one point where he could change the future.

If you think like they're thinking, yes. Easy to comprehend. Love withstands all things and can even defeat time. Good message. Simple and gooey.
If, however, you think like a rational human being, no. And I'm going to argue my case. Think about this. The reason she goes back to the Lakehouse, and she admits this herself, is because the guy died, and that got her thinking. When she realizes that the guy that died was the guy she's falling in love with, she hurries and stops him from dying. Okay... She stops the guy from dying. Logically, the future then would have changed. The guy never died, she never started thinking, she never went to the Lakehouse, and she never met him. So, he would never have been in the danger in the first place, because he was crossing the street to get to her. But she gave him the letter that told him to wait. But, as you can see, he waited, he didn't die, and she didn't go to the Lakehouse. So.
They wouldn't end up together, logically.
It's still a happy ending, and I'm glad they're happy.

It wasn't hard to understand. A little out there and in no way believable, but still a great love story.
I had figured out that Reeves' character was the one who got hit by the bus when he didn't show up to meet her at the restaurant. It was pretty easy, because he wore a brown jacket in the movie and the guy that got hit had on a brown jacket.
Still, you just gotta love a good love story, believable or not.

From what I read, it was a little tough to follow on the first go 'round, but once you realize that Sandra Bullock is in one period of time and Keanu Reeves is another, it makes sense from there. Give it a second try.
