What do you think of this story about the Jewish Rabbi - making a fuss about the Chistmas Tree's in Seattle Airport. . seemingly he kicked up a fuss because he wanted some Jewish religious item displayed. So the Airport staff took down all the tree's. Should the Rabbi have been told to - beat it ..or should they have displayed one of these Jewish religious items.

The true story:
- Rabbi contacted the airport 2 months ago, offered to handle the Jewish display himself (i.e. no expense to the airport).
- He never demanded that the trees be removed at any time
- When the airport authority did not give him a response the rabbi had his lawyer send them a legal brief detailing that there was precendence to displaying Jewish items as a way to spur the authority into action.
- The airport authority panicked and in response decided not to have ANY holiday displays
- The media then misreported the facts in such a way that it made it seem that the rabbi was directly responsible for the removal of the trees.
- The rabbi himself has no objection to the replacement of the trees.

So, to answer your question, should they have displayed a menorah?
Well, ultimately, its up to the airport authority. So, if they said "no" its their perogative. Then again, the same goes for a "yes" answer.
Personally, I don't care one way or the other.

The Rabbi did not make a "fuss"--he simply asked that a menorah be added to the display. He even offered to provide the menorah at his own expense.

He never asked, nor wanted, the trees removed. He did not complain about the trees. He did not express offense at the trees. He expressed surprise and disappointment that the trees were removed.

He never threatened to sue--the Airport and the Seattle press totally misrepresented the case, knowing that as a Rabbi he would not be able to reply until Monday.

If people want to be upset, they should be upset at the Airport, not the Rabbil.

he's precise to be frightened. i'd be appalled too, for the really drastic measures they have taken. they are literally announcing that there is not any way, even overdue at evening, they'd have had janitors or someone placed up menorahs? no longer even a megastar of David? you could get them everywhere! How demanding is it, fairly? perchance this is only as well that they did what they did, yet i'd hate to work out the Jewish human beings as an entire get blasted over this. it is meant to be the season of love and togetherness.

I think that they should have just added the Jewish items to the Christmas trees..Its not fair that everyone has to be "punished"...my dad always told me that you can please some of the people all the time but all the time, there are some people you cant please...people need to realize that they cant get their way all the time..christians and jews alike

personally ,I like the trees up . As far as the rabbi , They caved when he said lawyer involved . The airport should just of told him that the committee would take it into consideration . If he didn't want to accept that , well just tell him to go ahead . This stuff takes forever to get a court date

we are supposed to be living in diverse multicultural society. i am not religious but i like traditional beliefs and i accept others cultural ethnicity and religious opinions. why do we have to hide what we believe in. i do not expect Muslims not to wear their scarfs i don't think a Christian should be banned from wearing a crucifix and Christmas trees, well what is the world coming too. it had nothing to do with religion, Christmas trees came later. it sounds as though the whole world is opposed to accepting others beliefs and i find it unacceptable.

I believe they should of said no we are keeping it.
Well I believe they should keep it up. It is not a christmas thing yes people do have them around christmas but its a evergreen. If it is called anything it can be a holiday tree celbrating all holidays. So many other places have trees like the white house. Even so the one in NY.

I'm an atheist and I couldn't care less. The Christmas tree is a pagan custom anyways.

They should have told the Rabbi that it's not a Christmas tree, but a Hanuka Bush!
