You can do this wirelessly or wired assuming that the computers are newer computers. What you'll need to get is:
1 - a wireless router to split the connection and share it with other computers.
1 - wireless pci card for the desktop computer
1 - network card (if you don't have it already) for the other computer.
What you have now for a connection to the internet is most likely this:
Internet -> Cable Modem -> Desktop Computer
what you'll end up with is:
Internet -> Cable Modem -> Wireless Router -> Split connection between computers (one wired, one wireless).
This is all assuming that you are using 2 desktop computers.

Jeez, this is not rocket science. If you pay for another connection you will get the same service levels on both machines. Cable IS is a shared medium so it is no worse than when your neighbor puts in their own cable modem. The advantage to two modems is with the upstream limiters put in place to limit the bandwidth to a single modem. So theoretically you have more bandwidth available. Practically the cable segment is probably oversubscribed to a point where limiters are not often needed as the overall customer load on the segment limits the actual throughput. Is the possible performance improvement worth it? Maybe, but do not get your hopes up. Where you might see an actual issue in implementing this solution is with the signal levels. By splitting the cable you add a 3 db loss at every split. So by doing so you will lessen the signal to both devices. This is not necessarily a real issue unless you already have a marginal signal. Normally high quality cable and splitters will do the job, but a $100 bidirectional cable amplifier will deal with most signal level issues.

You will need to network the computers. Because of the distance between the computers I would suggest a wireless router. The alternative is to pay for two internet services.
Even if you split the cable, connecting to the internet involves the use of a computer address number and you can only have one number per service, which is why you network them.

Buy a router. Install it between your cable or DSL modem and the first computer. Then run a second network cable off one of the router ports to your basement. (Or if you get a wireless router and a wireless card for the basement PC, you can go that way. But it will be slower).

Get some help to set up wireless access so that you can also connect to the Internet from your basement. The bare essentials you will need is a wireless access point and a wireless adpater card or USB adapter for your basement PC or laptop.

If you have a network card in your PCs, you can share your internment connection using a long network cable. The software is already available in windows for this. If you don't have network cards in your PCs they aren't expensive and easy to fit.
If you don't want cables running around connecting the two pic's you'll have to invest in something like a bluetooth wireless installation which is much more expensive and complicated.

you need a suitable adapter that will fit to your cable modem and an adapter for your computer to plug in a long cable between your modem adapter and your computer adapter. check out any well equipped reputable computer supply outlet like office depot, or if you know the right secifications order your materials online. i had to do much the same, when i put a connected office in my home a little over a year ago.

Dear its very simple, Just Use the Stright over CAT 5 cable to connect other PC. Just go to any computer shop & ask for Stright Over Cat 5 cable to connect one more PC. How many meters you require tell him. Bring it to home connect you Two LAN (RJ 45) Ports. Set Network connection to Autometically detect the network. Else you can use any third part software also. You can use the Wingate software. just download & install it in Other PC (Not for connected modem PC) And go to connections in Internet properties, go to Proxy server & enter the IP Address of Main PC & you can enter port no. as 8080 to connect.
