Scopophilia is a medical term for voyeurism and it is real

Voyeurism is a practice in which an individual derives sexual pleasure from observing other people. Such people may be engaged in sexual acts, or be nude or in underwear, or dressed in whatever other way the "voyeur" finds appealing. The word derives from French verb voir (to see) with the -eur suffix that translates as -er in English. A literal translation would then be “seer” or "observer", with pejorative connotations.

Also, the word voyeur can define someone who receives enjoyment from witnessing other people's suffering or misfortune

Scopophilia is voyeurism, or an obsession with voyeurism.

It certainly is! I myself love looking into people's lighted front rooms at this time of year to see how they are celebrating Christmas. It's an innocent little habit, I think, but it falls under the definition.

There are certainly people who get their kicks from observing many things clandestinely. Voyeurism is just one of these.

Many thanks to you and the other respondents for expanding my vocabulary. I've now learnt a new word.
So what does that make me: a scopophlian or a scopophlist?
Or just plain voyeur, in other words peeping tom?

Yes. It is an impulse control disorder that should be treated by a competent therapist and/or medication.
