I remember seeing my favorite aunt cry for several days after the WTC act .... she was 5 blocks away when it happened in another building and had direct vision to it ..... she said what really broke her heart were the people that jumped that day.

On Dec. 5 of 1993, my husband, who was then my boyfriend, was in his home w/ 2 friends and his mother. My husband had this old rifle that one of his grandpaws had given to him years before. Something was wrong w/ the rifle...it could go off just by being jarred and everyone "thought" it wasN'T loaded. One of my husband's friends picked up the gun and slapped it down into his hand, when he did, the gun went off...hitting my husband's other friend in the stomach. There was only about 8 feet of space between the boys. My husband was standing maybe only 3 feet from his friend when he was struck. Close enough to have powder burns on his cheek. My husband performed c.p.r. on his friend for 45 minutes before the ambulance arrived. I have never seen more grief or anguish on any other face in my life and I hope to God I never have to. To this day, it's an effort for my mother-in-law to get out of bed on Dec. 5. My husband's other friend spent a few months in a juvenile center but thanks to much community support, he was released. This was truly just the most horrible and nightmarish of accidents. My fellas still haven't quite recovered, but every Dec. 5, they do a pitiful attempt to fake it. That day, and for many days to follow, you could actually see the attempt and desire for these boys to just "will" the life out of themselves. I was 3 months pregnant when this happened. My husband has told me that had I not been, he wouldn't have even tried to live. I believe him.

It's ironic that I came across this question, because I'm actually feeling that way right now about my nephew. I'm only ten years older then him, so we're more like brother and sister, and he's going through a really hard breakup (He's 23) and it just is horrible to see him in this much pain. I'm all the way in Italy and he's back home in the States, and it just makes it that much harder because I can only talk to him over the phone, and I want to be there to just sit and talk to him face to face. It's terrible!

I have tears in my eyes as I answer your question. My first cousin, Anita, went to my dad to show her frail back to him, because her husband beat her with a belt. Her back was black and blue!

My sister, as she suffered from the rage of her husband who slapped her face; and threw aLL her clothes away ready to be burned. He poured gasoline on her clothes.

My sister (again!) when she found out that her eldest son had impregnated his girlfriend and they don;t have any money at all!

Unfortunately I have and it is something I'll never forget. What caused his pain (my dad's) wasn't anything like WTC, but it still devastated him and I could feel what he was going through.

My daughter. She has been through some really rough times with her dad and step monster (mom). I am amazed that she is such a good kid.

My dad cried after my mom left him. I'd never seen him cry before, so that was really tough to see. At the same time, it reminded me that he loved her more than words.....
