I have a new sewing machine, purchased about 6 months ago; the model number is 5040. I do adore it; the only problem is there's no overedge option/foot. Now I'm assuming I can't just buy an overedge foot if there's not option for it? If I'm wrong do let me know. But what is the next best thing I can do to sew my own clothes and for them not to look amateurish, using my machine, without doing the overedge? Would it be better if I traded my machine for another one and pay a little more money? Or should I even consider buying a serger? Any and all input will be immensely appreciated!

You have two choice's buy an overlocker or do a zig zag stitch at the very edeg of the materal but not over it this does exactly the same job.
