After realizing that my antivirus trial had expired, I just downloaded a new trial (mcafee). The Mcafee program uses it's own firewall. If this is true, can I assume that if I run my own firewall (built in to windows XP) and Mcafee, that I am running 2 firewalls simultaneously? Should I turn one of them off?

You can only use one firewall or you will have serious conflict with your system. The built in firewall for Windows XP, is not really a firewall. You only get one way protection from ports pinging your system. You don't get outgoing protection for private data that may leave your pc without your knowledge. A firewall has to protect you incoming/outgoing.

Why don't you use the free for life AOL, Kaspersky antispyvirus program. Rated # 1 in the world for virus detections. You get updates every hour an a real time scanner in the background that works really excellent. The link is below.

You can use Zone Alarm free for home personal use firewall. You get daily updates, an auto updates of all new versions.

I use both of the above. Why pay when you can get two better programs that are far superior then the ones you want to pay for.
