I have a family thank you! I just think so many people are pressured into buying things for their kids that they really can't afford, then spending months afterwards in debt. Its only 1 day! Be nice to each other all year round.

Some people aren't thinking about others when they answer this question! What about all of the elderly people who live alone and won't see or speak to anyone over xmas. Do you think it makes them feel good knowing everyone else is enjoying themselves? I am NOT religious, but the true meaning has gone now.

I DO ACTUALLY ENJOY CHRISTMAS, I am sorry for you because you can't see the real reason for the season, good will toward you fellow man and it being a kinder gentler time of the year. Try thinking of this: what about those families that cannot provide a Christmas for their children; the kids DO NOT deserve to suffer and IF you are sooooo worried about going into debt, here's a thought: can you say? oh what is the word that I'm thinking of? oh yeah--CASH???????? That is a very good way to keep from going into debt and there is this other thing that people can do, it is called making a budget!
Try to go out and helping somebody that is a whole lot less fortunate than yourself, then maybe, just maybe you will stop being so sour toward the best time of the year, when people actually do show a whole lot more caring than at AN-NY other time of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes I do. I have always loved Christmas. I do know that there are people who only want to make money in this Season, but doesn't everyone need an edge to earn a living. You do not have to buy everything that is out there, it is up to you. I think that everyone has forgotten the real reason for Christmas. I usually come up to Christmas thinking 'not again' but when it happens I enjoy the period. I do know that during the Christmas period there are more arguments and the divorce rate rises. This is due to the fact that everyone is usually off from their places of work and are thrown together for these few days and conflicts occur.

A lot of people think I'm bonkers, because I gave up Christmas. Its a decadent materialistic farce - however you dress it up. Christ wasnt even born on 25th December, in fact the bible doesnt even say when he was born. The fact that shepherds were out in the fields at night should tell you that it wasnt winter. The church just adopted the date to try and stop people celebrating winter solstice.
Personally, I got tired of buying gifts that werent truly wanted or needed; cards that are thrown away soon after, spending money I couldnt really afford, just because it was expected of me. etc
We still enjoy family time during the holiday and I take them shopping in the sales for what they really want - and they get more for your money. Just without the fuss and the mess.

I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!!

The rip off is merchants who use the season to make up for slow sales the other 10 1/2 mths of the year. And instead of buying presents for family, donate the money you would have spent to the Salvation Army or your city's Union Mission. It's a whole lot better use of the money than giving gifts to ppl who, for the most part, don't need them.
My family has been doing that since Sept 11.

I love Christmas.... always have. I love buying presents. Always have set a limit on each person and am not in debt. I love getting everyone together, to eat and relax. Christmas is not stressful in my house, we chill out, eat when its ready, play cheesy songs and try to have a laugh! . If you hate it so much why not go on holiday with the family? Or do some voluntary work with the homeless? Think of doing something a bit different! Hope you have a good Christmas!

Well right now, no, I don't really enjoy Christmas that much. But when I have a child I will because I will have this little life to buy gifts for and celebrate. I mean I have and 11yr old sister and I love taking care of her and getting her things but its not the same as having your own child. I believe Christmas is a children's holiday, unless your christian, then it has to do with celebrating the birth of Christ. So for me on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the highest), I would say a high 5.

I always enjoy Christmas but hate how commercial it is.
For years my family and friends have been buying more and more 'stuff'.......presents.......more presents.......a little extra present.......a few stocking-fillers....... till last year we decided we'd had enough.
Now we set a limit -£20 or £30 and its much better cause we really have to THINK about what to buy.
I'd much rather my family kept their money for holidays etc. than spend it on presents for me, which to be honest, I really don't need.

And have you tried to buy a card with a nativity scene etc. on it? Stuffed away in the corner surrounded by mountains of Santa, snowmen etc. I'm not a religious person but jesus' birth is what Christmas is supposed to be about.

Christmas is what you make it. It doesn't have to be a rip off either. Reduce your expenditure by agreeing to only buy something small for family members and also cut out the chore factor at the same time. Turn off the tv and play games together. Christmas is a time for being with your family not watching the christmas specials!

in the end yes i do enjoy the whole build up to christmas. sure there is pressure to buy big items, but no one is forcing you to buy big gifts. buy what you want and give what you can.

yes there are lots of people who are alone on christmas. but there are a TON of programs out there that people donate to.

angel trees, sponsoring a family, the salvation army kettles, meals on wheels, donating food to a pantry, etc. i LOVE sponsoring a family and getting them gifts to make their holiday special. see most of us help out it just isn't advertised.

if you look at this as a sad time of year you will be depressed, if you think positive and forget about all the commercialism you will have a better time.

Although it is expensive and a very stressful time of year, the excitement and look on the faces of my nieces and nephews when they open their presents on Xmas day make the whole event worth while, plus Xmas dinner is probably the best meal of the year and all the silly games that get played as well make it a special occasion!

Seasons greetings to one and all:-)
