Aunt Tina, a model is a way of explaining abnormal behaviour (actions which distress an individual and others around them). There are many models of mental behaviour. The AQA A specification focuses on 4:

1. The Medical model/physiological approach
2. The Behavioural approach
3. The Psychodynamic approach
4. The cognitive approach

These models are often divided into physiological models and psychological/social models.

Physiological models focus on the body/biology when explaining abnormal behaviour and therefore include the medical model.

Psychological/social models focus on what's going on inside and outside the individual when explaining abnormal behaviour and include the cognitive model (what goes on inside a person's head), the behavioural model (how the person reacts to their enviroment or people around them) and the psychodynamic model (what happens in a person's childhood and unconscious mind).

Other important models include the humanistic approach, feminist psychology (the popular misconception that eating disorders are simply a woman's reaction to the 'ideal figures of beauty' presented in the media is related to this approach) and symbol interactionism (the sociological approach-this approach explains abnormality in terms of the ideology within a particular society and or culture). All of these models have strengths and weaknesses. Each model can explain parts of abnormal behaviour, but none of the models on their own can provide a complete explanation.

Hope this answers your question!

medical model = clinical sees ilness as a person being sick and treats them with drugs as if their mental problems are a physical illness. Medical model is like a doctor decides you are ill and decides you have to be fixed.

Social Model = looks at their entire life to see whats causing or contributing to their mental health problems like their environment where they live are they alone are they rich or poor do they lack services and resources are they prone to illness like does it run in the famliy, are they substance misusers? Victims of abuse etc. The problems are treated holistically often with a combination of drugs and therapy and lifestyle changes not just drugs like the medical model. Hope this helps.

Models? Do you meantypes of diagnosis like psychosis, paranoia, bi-polar? I'm not understanding your question. Please elaborate.
Otherwise, everyone you hear, see, talk to, read about, etc are all models of mental health.
