Racism is merely a tool. A tool used by one groupd of people (the ruling class) to keep other people down and out of power.

I dont think theres an actual purpose.
I think individuals have funny notions as to what's right and wrong.
People dont like change. "Because someone is different than him or her, theyre not as good."

I think the better question would be, Why do people play into something as stupid as racism?

Unfortunately it goes both ways. There are whites that dont like black people, blacks that dont like whites, whites that dont like chinese..... It goes on and on.

In a world of post - 9/11, its sad that racism still exists. People need to understand that there are so many more important things in life than worrying about something as superficial as why they dont like a different person of race.

I think racism LIMITS a country's potential. I wonder how many Bill Gates' types there have been who were held back because of prejudice. Businesses that never got started. Jobs that never were available.

Us against them...builds group camaraderie. Also, seems to help those with self esteem problems by either making them feel superior or putting blame for ones problems on others. I'm totally against racism but you did ask what's the purpose.

Only a racist could answer that (& that would vary because of the many races on this planet). I could tell you that it originates from fear & social deficiencies/needs that occur naturally, no matter how "inhumain" it may seem.

I wish I knew. I don't see a real purpose other than to keep up
the nonsense. We are one race. The human race.

There is no purpose or means. It's just another way for a group of people to segregate themselves from others and give them their "holier than thou" complex.

Also for the most part its a way of those that have poor self-esteem, attempt to artificially raise it, by putting others down.

To make yourself feel better than anyone else. To be afraid of anyone that is in anyway different from you. Otherwise there is nothing to it.

I agree with steven g. As long as you give people an excuse to despise the way you live, you are always going to have people who hate you.
