I am alittle confuse about Islam and terrorist funding. As Islamic peace means to subdue people to sharia law, I was wondering why Afghanistan was a hot bed of cut throat drug smuggling.

Does Afghanistan offer anything other than Sharia Opium addiction and corruption?

The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (it's official self-
designated title), produces most of the worlds opium
(over 90 %), and it accounts for over a third of its
revenue.Which might not be as bad as it sounds.

Opium is not only the raw material for narcotics but is
also one of the most powerful pain-killer used in
medecine.

There is an initiative to bring in the production for
medical use (pay the afghani farmers for it rather than
allow it to go to the drug underworld).

The country is almost completely muslim.
The afghanis were seen in a good light (by the US and world press - Reagan termed them 'freedom-fighters') during their war against the Russian invasionin 79. It was then that the images of afghani rural men fighting with their AK47s on mountaintops was first seen.

After the russians left (and with most of the influential afghans having already done so), it was unstable enough for the Taliban to come into power in the early 90s.

A strong muslim influence politically and culturally - the sharia, started then. Initially, to their credit, the Taliban also helped to nearly stop all of the opium production in 2001.
A huge feat - being one of the poorest countries on the
planet, and opium being a good chunk of their income.

2001 also happened to be the year Alqaeda and Osama bin
Laden struck World Trade Center. The close ties with the
Taliban and Osama bin Laden subsequent retreat there, not helping the afghani people. It was the last year the Taliban were in power there.

Afghanistan is suspected to be extremely rich in natural
resources. But it's major problems have not helped it's people
overcome it's dependence financially on opium -
production has climbed back up to the highest of any
country. Overcoming the temptation of easy money via opium and corruption is going to be their way of getting to tap into their resources.

Earth was flat for a long long time untill a whole bunch of people got together with some scientific evidence and proved it otherwise.

A child is born completely innocent in this world. He will learn to behave according to the influences around him, irrespective of who is shaping his ultimate behaviour.

In this respect people born in Afganistan are no differnt than people living anywhere else in the world.

Love begets love. The path of hatred results in total destruction of both parties.

I wish some of you would have read the story written by Ravindra Nath Tagore " Kabuliwala" or seen that film - sorry it's only in black & white. Life is not always that colourful, but who would not want it be more colourful, lively & peaceful.

Many Islamic fanatic groups are financed by drug and sex slave dealers. Kosovo is a good example for this.
