Unfortunately, there is nothing directly you can do to stop a VW Beetle from rusting, but you can try a few things to slow the process.
--make sure that the drain holes in the heater channels are open (consult a chilton's guide for their location)
--always park on a hard surface (preferably paved, but try to stay away from grassy parking surfaces)
--deal with trouble rust spots quickly (when was the last time you checked your battery pan for rust-through holes?)

Hope this helps--

If you live in a wet climate, keeping a rusting car covered just promotes more rust. Since you don't have a garage to keep the car in, I'd just leave it uncovered. At least, that way, when it's not raining the car will have a chance to dry out a little!

The wind won't scratch the car unless it contains an abrasive ... like sand. Do you live near the beach?

You asked a thread earlier about a cover didn't you?

Prime consideration is to have the underbody rustproofed with waxoyl, that'll stop any nastiness corroding from the outside.

To be fair, if you have a decent cover, a garage doesn't offer much more protection as far as rust goes.

If the car is already rust free, the best thing to do is get a rustproofing kit from Dinitrol or Waxoyl and follow the instructions,There are firms around that will do it for you but will be expensive due to the time it takes,if the car is already rusty you will need to repair the rusted areas first.Good luck.

take it to a body-shop to have all of the underbody and exposed metal work treated with rust-proofing then have the paintwork treated with one of the 'diamond-shine tough-coat' type products that will give the paint a protective coating. Keep a good layer of a decent winter wax on the paint.

These might sound like an expensive option but in the longer term it will save as you will not have to buy new panels or pay for repairs.
