My husband does and that's why he has accumulated over 300 hours in sick leave. He refuses to take off from work. About 9 years ago he had to have back surgery and was out of work recovering at home for 6 weeks. He never used worker's comp because he had enough sick leave to cover the time off and then he still had time to spare. I don't understand it. I tell him all the time that he had to work a specific amount of hours in order to earn the 4 hours each time and that he is entitled to use it especially when he is sick. He won't though and well, I guess that's his perrogative.

Working sick is a crappy thing to do to your co-workers. Your boss and co-workers don't want to get sick either, so don't go to work as Mr. Sniffles.
Working when sick *at the office* shows nothing about your dedication. It shows that you're not considerate of your co-workers.
If you're sick, either take the day off or work at home.
And, yes, I occasionally feel bad on the rare occasion I take off, but I'd rather take off and get better than work feeling like crap and share the germs with everyone.

Not if I'm genuninely ill, no! I've taken the occasional sickie, and I just think, what's the point in doing it if you're gonna spend the whole day feeling guilty! Enjoy it or go into work!

Yeah I do! I'm not well with cold at the moment & my boss has told me a few times over the last week to go home... But I wont because I would feel bad. I don't even know why!
I thought I was just weird!

Depends what it's for - if it's a hangover, then I feel big time guilty and can't enjoy my day off. If I was proper dying, then no, I'd be fine.

If you feel guilty then you must have a consience......which could possibly signal that you are either not ill (faking it) or fibbing about the severity of the illness.
