not at all, a friend of mine is afraid of pickles!
it is a simple phobia, the way to treat it is progressively exposing you to the subject of the phobia (for example: having a picture of an opossum in an envelope, once you feel secure holding the envelope-> opening the envelope, once you feel secure -> watching the photograph-> holding it -> watching an opossum on TV-> watching a jailed opossum ->watching a free opossum -> touching one, etc)
this might be a long process, an you probably will need several sessions. Find advice on somebody by your side or a psychologist

Opossums are harmless. I was turkey hunting one morning, and I was sitting against a tree before daylight, and I hard something rustling in the leaves I thought it might be a turkey so I did not move, but instead it was an opossum, and it walked with in 3 feet of me and stoped right in front of me. I could have spit on it. I suddenly threw my arms up to try to scare it, and it literally screamed and took off running. Opossums are more scared of us than we are of them. Opossums are generally a timid and easily frightened animal. Their means of self defense it playing dead for crying out loud. I hope my story helps you. I do however have a little phobia of my own. We have spotted a panther on our hunting property and I am a little afraid of that thing, he is as big as a German Shepard.
