Patricia Cornwall and the Scarpetta series. Start with Post Mortem and read the whole series. Brilliant read and you really get to know all the characters.

Mandasue Heller... Her style of writing is very much like Martina Coles, so much so that Martina wrote a review for many of Mandasue Heller's books... Check out her books on Amazon or something... Good luck, hope you like her.
