if they haven't told you to have an empty stomach then my guess would be you don't need to or they may be thinking of not doing the test today!!!
maybe they are gonna dip test your pee and see what that says 1st??? doesn't that tell them if further tests are needed???
I'm having # 5 and still get confused by the doctors!!!

I feel the same way about my doctor but, there are no special eating instructions. I told the lab tech doing the test that I had had breakfast like normal and he said that it doesn't matter. They want to test your 'normal' glucose rate with the introduction of the sugar, so you should just do what you normally do.

I got a script from my doctor and had to go to a lab to have the test done. I didn't have it done in the office. For that test you don't have to come in on an empty stomach. If it comes up abnormal then they will send you for a longer test which you need to have an empty stomach for.

When I took mine, I had no special eating instructions. But in talking to other pregnant women, some of their doctors did. The best thing to do is call your doc's office and ask the receptionist. My doc didn't even remember to give me one (he's a high-risk doc so I guess he's not used to the routine preg. stuff) and when I mentioned it he said, "oh yeah, we'll do it today!" I had just eaten lunch and mine came out fine. You should be okay just doing whatever, but if you're worried about it call and ask.

You don't have to fast for the 1st gluclose test. You go in they give you a sugar drink, you have 5 minutes to drink it down. When you are done you tell them they time you 1 hour. When your hour is up they draw blood. Done.
Now if you fail that test score over 140, they'll do the 3 hour test which you will have to fast for. Which they will put you on a high carb diet for 3 days prior to your scheduled testing date. Its not a hard diet if you like processed sugar foods. The fourth day you should have fasted for 12 hours prior, you go in, they take your blood, give you the drink, 5 minutes to finish, wait one hour and draw blood, they wait another hour and draw blood again, wait another hour draw blood again. Done.

For a glucose tolerance test you should be fasting even if its a pregnancy screen.
