Without doubt Nokia are the easiest to use. Also, Orange is a great network, bit more expensive, but if you have any kind of problem, they are happy to sort it out.

Get the 02 Ice, I think it costs £70 but it comes with £10 top-up. It's a light phone with plenty of functions but it's easy to use at the same time.
Orange is a bit of a rip-off in my experience but it depends what deal you get. My friend who's just bought the 02 Ice can top-up £10 a month and they get something like 500 free minutes to phone any other 02 phone and 150 to other networks.

Depends on whats features you want. £70 can buy quite a good phone . I would buy a payg on 3 cos you can video call people with it being a 3g phone.

I have just bought a new motorola phone for my daughter for xmas.
Got it from carfone wharehouse on the orange network for £69.95 but apparently it is not locked so you can use it with any sim card.
also got £5 credit on the phone

Vodaphone all the way...

But phones4u have so many models you can't complain
Car phone warehouse is disappointment

Personally the new LG Chocolate looks good but is expensive

Nokia is the cheapest

most porbably a nokia like everyone is saying unless you want to be differnt and get a sony!
