I think you mean 'alma mater', which is the school or university you used to go to.
As in, 'Ah, Oxford, my alma mater'

I presume what you are looking for is "Alma Matar" and that means somethig as like as "the nourishing mother" in Church believed to be the mother of God ...
Matar is "mother" and alma is kinda similar to "nourishment", but not in a sense of food, much more in a sense of "lifeblood".
So the alma matar is kind of the mother who gives life (that's why church says, the mother of God) But we can interprete giving life as giving nourishment, too.
If a professor calls his university Alma Matar (They sometimes do) then he literally means, that the university is the place that gives him his life (his sense of life), spiritually as well as the money he needs for his living.
